50s Prime Time Cafe
All of the full service restaurants at the Walt Disney World Resort have a theme behind them, but none more so than the 50’s Prime Time Cafe at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Located just off of Hollywood Boulevard in the Echo Lake area, this 1950’s-themed eatery takes everything up a few notches to make this one of the most unique restaurants your family will ever encounter!
The 50’s Prime Time Cafe is hard to miss whether you are looking for it or not. The exterior looks like that of a house in the 50’s, and upon entering, the theme continues with a living room feel and a bar/kitchen area over to the right that is dubbed as “Dad’s Liquor Cabinet.” Take some time to make yourself comfortable on one of the couches as you watch sitcoms featuring famous TV moms from the 50’s on the black and white tube television, or plop yourself down at the bar to enjoy a full menu if the wait is too long for the regular dining area. It is important to note, though, that because of the high volume of guests who wish to dine here, we highly suggest making advanced reservations at (407) WDW-DINE or else trying to eat at the bar – although it’s not the same experience, as you will soon see why!
If you do get seated at this restaurant, the fun begins immediately as you are called by your family name to your table, which is located in “Ma’s kitchen” from the 50’s, complete with vinyl chairs and booths (some tables even have their very own black and white TV!). At the 50’s Prime Time Cafe, everyone is family, so be prepared to be greeted by the name of cousin or another family moniker. From the beginning of the meal where you have to set your place setting for yourself until the end when you have to finish your entire plate, you are treated like family with rules and all, including no elbows on the table!
The experience you receive at the 50’s Prime Time Cafe is only part of the fun, however, as the menu featuring American classics like pot roast, meatloaf and fried chicken go along perfectly with a wide variety of milkshakes (try the peanut butter and jelly) or ice cream sodas. These aren’t your only dessert options though – s’mores, ice cream sundaes, seasonal cobblers and more are on this menu, although they don’t have an actual dessert menu; instead, you view all of these delectable items through an old-school view finder!
The 50’s Prime Time Cafe is one of the most sought-after restaurants in the entire Walt Disney World Resort because of its reputation and its relatively affordable prices (dinner entrees range from just over ten dollars to thirty dollars), but the experience here far supersedes any amount of money you might spend.
