Disney’s Contemporary Resort
Disney’s Contemporary Resort was one of the two original resorts to open up at the Walt Disney World Resort in 1971 (the other was Disney’s Polynesian Resort), and while this is among the oldest resorts on property, it is also the most futuristic and, well, contemporary resort at Walt Disney World. The main building at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is an A-frame that is unique for many reasons. No. 1, the monorail actually goes inside of the hotel in this main building, making it the only Disney hotel that the monorail literally runs through. And No. 2, this structure was also built in an odd way – the steel frame was constructed and the approximately 500 pre-made rooms were actually slid in place via a crane to complete the construction. In addition to this main tower, where most of the guest facilities are, there are also wings off to the side that house additional guest rooms. The rooms at Disney’s Contemporary Resort are large in comparison to other hotel rooms across property. They offer unique and modern furnishings, including flat screen plasma TV’s on the walls, all thanks to a major renovation that has taken place at this resort over the past few years. Other amenities at the deluxe category hotel include room service, a health club, a business center, wireless internet access and a 90,000+-square foot convention center. Recreation is also at the forefront here, as the resort offers a marina with watercraft rentals, an arcade, jogging trail and two heated pools. Disney’s Contemporary Resort is also known for its eating establishments. One of the best restaurants not only at the Walt Disney World Resort, but also in all of Orlando, is the California Grill. Located at the top of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, this restaurant allows its guests to enjoy a spectacular view and experience fine dining inspired by the tastes of West coast American cuisine. Guests can also dine with Mickey & friends at Chef Mickey’s, an American buffet that is one of the best character dining experiences on property.
If you choose to stay at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, you are going to need tickets for you and your family to head into the parks and take advantage of the perks that come with being a guest at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel. Among those privileges are Extra Magic Hours (before the parks open and after they close), in which only resort guests get to experience the best attractions with much lesser crowds. If you are flying into Orlando International Airport, you can also take advantage of Disney’s Magical Express Transportation, which picks you up and takes you to your Walt Disney World Resort free of charge. Transportation is also complimentary on-site at your resort hotel, as you can hop on a bus and be shuttled anywhere on property without ever having to spend a dime to park or worry about how to get where. There are other resort benefits as well, such as the Disney Dining Plan, an offer where you can save 40 percent on dining on over 100 restaurants across property, as well as complimentary package delivery and amazing facilities that only Walt Disney World Resort guests can enjoy. And, to take advantage of all of these fantastic opportunities, be sure to have your tickets to the theme parks in hand before you arrive!
