Disneys Hollywood Studios Backlot
Disney’s Hollywood Studios is all about being immersed into the glamour and glitz of Hollywood, but if you want to really feel as if you are on the set of a Hollywood production, be sure to visit the Backlot. Home to attractions such as the Lights, Motors, Action! Stunt Show, Muppet Vision 3-D and Star Tours – the ultimate Star Wars thrill ride, this area of the park (which is probably the least utilized or visited) is actually home to some of the biggest thrills and some of the biggest special events at this theme park. One of those events is the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, which takes place along the Streets of America (replicas of city skylines of New York City, San Francisco and Chicago) during each holiday season, bringing millions of lights – and even snowflakes – to guests at the Walt Disney World Resort.
One of the first attractions guests approach in the Backlot has become the highlight of another one of Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ annual events – Star Wars Weekends. The attraction, Star Tours – the ultimate Star Wars thrill ride, takes 40 guests at a time on a tour of the galaxy while on board a flight simulator. Based off of the original “Star Wars” movies, Star Tours takes you on the adventure of a lifetime with the most popular characters from the movies like R2-D2 and C3-PO.
From one of the oldest attractions in the Backlot to one of the newest, the Lights, Camera, Action! Stunt Show opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2005 as a new attraction for the Happiest Celebration on Earth and was an instant success. This show came from Disneyland Resort Paris but was a natural fit for this theme park, as it features incredible stunts using specially-designed cars, motorcycles and jet skis, while also giving audiences a rare look at how car chases and collision scenes in movies and on TV are created and filmed.
Every one of the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks features a 3-D show, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios gets into the interactive fun with Muppet Vision 3-D. Fans of the Muppets (and even those who aren’t) will love this comical performance featuring Kermit, Miss Piggy and a host of Audio Animatronic characters, all of whom entertain and tickle your funny bone for a side-splitting 12 minutes.
The Backlot is just one of the many themed areas of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but as we mentioned earlier, it is often times overlooked due to its location in the rear of the park. Whether you normally visit this area of the park or not, it is definitely worth a look the next time you and your family are on vacation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
